My husband, who is from Portland, Oregon, pronounces the give-and-take "quarter" every bit "quotter" (rhymes with "water"). When I moved from California to the E Declension, I caught a lot of flak for my California-isms, such as saying "roof" (rhymes with "woof") instead of "roof" (rhymes with "spoof"). My showtime twenty-four hours there I knew I wasn't in California any more when I saw a billboard in New Jersey advertizement milk. It said, "Don't be quart short." My female parent, who was from Iowa, called almonds "am-monds" (rhymes with "jam'") rather than all-monds (rhymes with "ball"). |

I'g from Florida, most of my adult life in Dallas and now back in Florida. I've never said "ya'll" and I pronounce roof like woof. Information technology simply sounds better. We don't make the "boo" (scared ya!) "spoof" sound when we say "book" do nosotros? Nope. It'southward book similar woof! Quote: Originally Posted by ColdAilment I've noticed Louisville is another i. I say "Louie Ville" !!! |

In 2005 I participated in a national U.S. dialect survey which was conducted past students at Harvard Academy over a period of v years. The results of the survey are still posted on its website, and I find it fun to revisit and read the results from time to fourth dimension. Follow this link to see the results. Yes "Oil" pronounced by truthful southern people took a minute for me to get what they were saying. At work, if someone spills oil, I always go to hear the remarks afterwards, I kind of express mirth to myself. The funny thing is that I'thou getting extremely use to the southern accent then I can't choice up also much anymore like I use to unless they have a really thick southern accent. When I move downwardly the mountain a little, I'm sure I'll meet more of the thicker southern accent since it's not really a tourist place. I pronounce Chicago like Shi-cog-go.. I don't like Chicago at all, traffic is a severe instant headache! Just like Milwaukee lol. |
